An AI Document Review Checklist

Practical AI guide · Editorial content

AI can help review a document for structure and clarity, but a review prompt should be specific about what you want checked.

Check structure

Ask whether the document has a clear purpose, logical sections and an appropriate order.

Check clarity

Look for unexplained jargon, ambiguous statements, long sentences and missing context.

Check consistency

Names, dates, terminology, headings and formatting should be consistent. AI can flag possible inconsistencies, but you should verify them against the source of truth.

Check omissions

Ask the assistant to identify questions a reader might still have. This is often more useful than simply asking it to “improve” the document.

### Review prompt

Review this document for structure, clarity, consistency and missing information. List issues separately. Do not rewrite the document yet, and do not invent missing facts.

Separating diagnosis from rewriting makes it easier to decide which changes are actually needed.
